David Guetta: The Idolator Interview

David Guetta: The Idolator Interview

David2The Grammy countdown has begun, and five-time nominee David Guetta is gearing up for a flight from Paris to L.A. “I’m going to go eat, pack and take the plane,” he tells Idolator while in transit. “I made a few tracks, because every time I’m in Los Angeles I’m meeting artists. So I’ll have a little bit of a studio session and then the awards.”
Guetta’s global floorfiller “When Love Takes Over,” which features a booming Kelly Rowland on vocals, is up for Best Dance Recording and Best Remixed Recording, while his LP One Love snagged a nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album. But the sought-after French DJ has earned acclaim far beyond clubland and the Academy’s dance audience: he also received a Record Of The Year nod for producing the Black Eyed Peas’ inescapable radio hit “I Gotta Feeling,” and thus could also share in the wealth if the band wins a statue for Album Of The Year for The E.N.D.

Walking by the Cameo on Saturday night during WMC, it's easy to see that F*** Me I'm Famous was a major event of the week. Throngs of people were huddled for blocks on both sides of the street as the fire marshals controlled entry to the club where David Guetta rocked the decks. The response is typical of the warm reception David has received on his first US tour preparing for the Ultra release of "GuettaBlaster," buoyed by the singles "Love Don't Let Me Go," The World Is Mine," and "Stay." With a new CD coming out in Europe, we can expect to see a lot of David Guetta for years to come.
DJ Ron Slomowicz:It's been quite a busy week for you, what have you been up to?
David Guetta: I don't know anymore. There was that amazing Swedish Mafia party last night with really incredible music. I played Nocturnal yesterday, which was really good also. I played the Subliminal party at Space. Tonight I have Ultra and I think what's going to be the party of the week – F*** Me I'm Famous at Cameo

Biography

David Guetta (born November 7th, 1967 in Paris) is a French DJ.

He was the pioneer of French house with “Up & Away,” a garage-style track with vocals by Robert Owens released in 1994 – really made a name for himself in the mid-90s as one of the key catalysts of Parisian nightlife by promoting evenings at such renowned Paris hot spots as Folies Pigalle, Queen, Bataclan, Palace and Les Bains, where he invited DJ legends like Little Louie Vega, David Morales, DJ Pierre and Roger Sanchez to join him on the turntables. In 2001, however, he went back to his first love: making music.

Launched by the single “Just A Little More Love”, an electro-funk-house cocktail featuring Chris Willis of the band Nashville on vocals, David Guetta’s first album was released by Virgin in June 2002 and went on to sell 250,000 copies. This resounding success carried through in the album’s second, even more devastating single, “Love Don’t Let Me Go”, a track reminiscent of Moroder’s techno-disco style crossed with Depeche Mode’s new-wave sound.
